Last night I was able to hear billionaire Kevin O’Leary speak live at the T&C Summit in San Diego. Kevin O’Leary is a guy who turned a $10,000 loan into a company that he sold for billions of dollars. Kevin O’Leary is also a venture capitalist and one of the sharks on the show the shark tank.

Last night he was the keynote speaker and he talked about what you should and shouldn’t invest in. He also shared valuable information about what investors look for when investing in companies.

This is the type of post that I could write about forever but I am going to keep it to the point and reveal 4 tips that I learned about investing and business from Kevin O’Leary.

Kevin O’Leary Tip #1: Money = Freedom

The reason you work so hard for as an entrepreneur is not because you want money, what you really want is the FREEDOM that money brings you. The ability to do what you want to do when you want to do it is freedom. The pursuit of the freedom is the American dream and why so many people strive to be wealthy.

Kevin O’Leary Tip #2: Don’t Be Afraid To FIRE Your Own Mother

If you are going to be an entrepreneur you have to make tough decisions and be willing to do whatever it takes legally to WIN. Yes WIN! You did not go into business to LOSE did you? That means you must be willing to Fire your own mother to make sure your business is profitable. If that makes you uncomfortable to think about firing people, when your competition is chewing you up and spitting you out because you can’t make tough decisions you will realize this tip to be true.  Letting a bad seed stay in your company will slowly kill it.

Kevin O’Leary Tip #3: Entitlement Sucks & Capitalism Is Awesome

When kevin O’Leary finished school he was cut off by his parents and he plans to do the same thing to his kids when they graduate school. They will not get a dime from him. They will work their butts off if they want to be rich.

He told a funny story where he got on an airplane with his kid. He said when they got off the plane his kid said Dad why do you get to go left and sit in the big chairs in the front of the airplane and we go to the right and sit in the little chairs. He said he looked at his kid and said “Because Daddy Is Rich And You’re Not”.

Capitalism gives everyone the chance and the ability to be very wealthy, even YOU!
